Dr. James Ray

Dr. James Ray is a dedicated dentist deeply rooted in the Knoxville and Powell communities. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee before completing a master’s degree in Pharmacology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr Ray attended dental school at UTHSC, where he developed a strong foundation in comprehensive, patient-centered care.

A lifelong learner, Dr. Ray believes that staying current with advancements in dentistry and continually sharpening his skills are essential to providing exceptional care. He is committed to ongoing growth and will begin the prestigious Kois Center continuum in 2026. Throughout both dental school and his professional career, he has remained active in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, and Knoxville Area Dental Association.

Dr. Ray is passionate about being part of his patients’ lives and helping them achieve their goals for their oral health and their smiles. One of his greatest commitments as a dentist is to help patients feel their best by restoring both oral health and confidence. His approach centers on comfort, communication, and education—ensuring every patient feels informed, supported, and empowered in their care decisions.

Service has always been an important part of Dr. Ray’s journey. He has provided essential care through Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinics and Mission of Mercy events, reinforcing his belief that dentistry is a powerful way to give back to the community.

Outside the office, Dr. Ray is happiest spending time with his incredible wife, Amber, and their two sons, Beckham and Henry. As a family, they love being in the outdoors, traveling, and exploring new food experiences.
